The Totally Spies Makeup Collection We’ve Dreamt of Since We Were Kids!
When I was around ten years old, I spent a fair amount of time watching TV, and one of my favorite shows was Totally Spies. I loved the girls, I loved their outfits, and the show made me fantasize about what going to high school would be like. But, perhaps most importantly, I absolutely adored their gadgets.
And now, somehow, we are actually getting the chance to own them. Well, makeup versions of them — but still! Isn’t that so exciting?
Martine Cosmetics has teamed up with Totally Spies for a new makeup collection inspired by the show and its gadgets, and in the lead-up to its release, the brand is revealing one product from the collection every day. Naturally, I have been following along, so I wanted to go over everything as it gets revealed.
Before we get into the actual products, though, a little bit about Martine Cosmetics. The brand is cruelty-free and vegan, and the vast majority of its range is made within the European Union.
Update: I ended up buying the Computer Spy Eyeshadow Palette and the Alex Laser Lip Duo, so I’ll be putting both of them to the test. A full review with swatches and my thoughts on the formulas is coming as soon as the products have arrived!

Compoudrier - Blush Duo

Martine Cosmetics has turned the iconic Totally Spies Compowder into a two-shade blush compact. Instead of helping you contact WOOHP, this version contains two matte blush shades.
In the promotional material, Martine Cosmetics has used the shades both as blush and as eyeshadow, so they seem to be intended as a fairly versatile duo. One side is a cool pink, while the other is a much more intense cerise-red.
Personally, I think I would have preferred one larger shade rather than two. The pans look a little narrow, which might make it difficult to get a brush into just one color, and the red shade looks quite intense for my pale complexion.
Laser Lip Duo - Lipstick & Lip Pencil

I tried to find a comparison of what the lipstick looked like in the show versus what Martine Cosmetics came up with. What I found is that the show actually has different-looking lipsticks in different scenes. Some are square, some are gold, and others are lavender.
I really like the direction Martine Cosmetics took. The packaging is sleek and lavender, with a cap that comes off at the bottom of the stick, making the lipstick itself look a little like an actual bullet. The lavender casing also has silver glitter running through it, which you can see in the images above. It looks super cute without becoming juvenile.
The formula looks creamy and hydrating. None of the shades appear fully matte, and I can’t see any glitter in them either. My first thought was that they might be using a formula similar to Martine Cosmetics’ Velour lipstick, which they describe as a soft matte. Their Velour lipsticks are manufactured in Italy, so if these do use the same formula, they may be manufactured there too — but that is just speculation for now.

Computer Spy - Eyeshadow Palette

Even better, the Computer Spy isn’t just a random gadget they’ve turned into an eyeshadow palette. In the show, the Computer Spy Manual was already disguised as an eyeshadow case, so this feels like one of the most natural products in the collection.
I spent a lot of time looking into this one. At the moment, we only have a teaser video on Instagram to go off of, and you betcha I watched it too many times to count, trying to figure out which shades are in there and what their finishes are.
Using what I could make out from the teaser, I recreated a high-res image of what I think the palette probably looks like. That’s the image in the album above.

I can see some very obvious color stories for the girls. A lot of attention has been put into the red, yellow, and orange shades, which encompass all three of them together*: Alex’s outfit, Sam’s hair, and Clover’s outfit! We also have some representation of Sam’s outfit with the green shades and some complementary yellows. One cool, colorful combination I can see would be Britney, Sam, and Dominique. There are quite a few pink and purple possibilities in here as well.
*On the morning of 13/09, Martine published a YouTube video explaining more about the palette! She said that there are five color stories:

LA Girl: Pinks
WOOHP: Futuristic colors, such as cool blues
These colors are super playful, but with 24 shades, I’m sure almost anyone could find at least one combination for everyday wear. You could go for a red, autumnal look, or something cooler using purples like Caitlin and Mindy. At the same time, the palette is so fun and colorful that it is definitely party-ready, and probably one of the first things I’d pull out when I want my look to stand out.
Net Blaster Mascara

The fourth product in the release is a mascara! All I really know about this one so far is that it isn’t waterproof, and that it seems to be a fairly straightforward black mascara.
The packaging is super cute, but there isn’t all that much more to say about the formula just yet. The brush is long, with fairly short, separated bristles and a tapered tip. It looks like the kind of brush that should be quite precise and good at separating the lashes, so I’d expect more length and definition than big, fluffy volume.
Martine prides herself on a great product funnel, or wiper, the part you pull the brush through before it comes out of the tube. She says they achieved a perfect balance for product deposit, which is a detail so precise, it has to be very true.
Parfum

There are three fragrances in the collection, each inspired by one of the spies.
Under Clover
Top: lemon, bergamot, almond
Middle: rose, cherry, raspberry, licorice
Base: vetiver, patchouli
This one immediately reminded me of Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Parfum, which also contains cherry, almond, red berries, bergamot, rose, licorice and patchouli.
Mission Sam
Top: apple, blackcurrant, rhubarb
Middle: lily of the valley, peony, grapefruit
Base: musk, amber, vanilla
Team Alex
Top: pear, pineapple, bergamot
Middle: coconut, papaya, mango, caramel
Base: musk, vanilla, sandalwood
The three fragrances are also available as a trio for €109.95. Do note that buying all three separately comes to €107.85, meaning you are effectively paying €2.10 extra for the convenience of putting them in your basket with one click rather than three.
WOOHP Water Bottle

I am a bit disappointed with this one. I was hoping for more makeup items, so having three perfumes and now a water bottle makes a fairly large part of the collection less interesting to me.
The bottle is exclusively available through Martine Cosmetics, so if you do want it, make sure to order it through their website.

Let’s do a little math to see what you’re actually getting for the price:
3 × €35.95 = €107.85 — perfumes

Total value of the products: €323.55
The complete kit costs €347.40, which leaves a difference of €23.85 for the suitcase itself.
This is where I’m a little confused. In her YouTube video, Martine says that the case is free. If the kit included the water bottle, that might explain the difference. However, as far as I can tell, the water bottle does not come with the suitcase: it isn’t mentioned in the contents or shown as part of the kit anywhere.
So unless I’m missing something, you’re effectively paying almost €24 extra for the suitcase.

What I’m Picking Up So Far
Now that the full collection has been revealed, I’m honestly disappointed with how it ended, mostly because of the pricing.
When I first saw the Spykit in Martine’s video, I wanted it immediately. Thoughts about the price, or whether I actually needed the entire collection, went straight out the window. But once I did the math, the excitement wore off fast.
The kit costs almost €24 more than the products inside it, even though Martine says the suitcase is free. The perfume trio has the same problem: buying all three separately costs €107.85, while the trio costs €109.95.
That feels especially odd because Martine’s fans are probably the people most likely to buy the full set. I would expect that kind of commitment to be rewarded with a small discount, not an extra charge.
I came to Martine Cosmetics as a makeup brand first and Martine as an influencer second, so I judge it the same way I would any other brand. Additionally, they do already do bundle discounts on their other products, so it makes it more difficult for me to wrap my head around.
I’m still hoping to pick up the Alex Lip Duo and the Computer Spy Eyeshadow Palette, though. Fingers crossed I can get there on time!
