Let’s Look At Rituals’ New Fall Line: Uukumwe

The new Rituals limited edition has dropped! Uukumwe, meaning “unity and togetherness,” is inspired by Namibian heritage and meant to inspire you to care for the collective as well as yourself. The collection uses marula, Namibian myrrh/omumbiri, and ochre clay.

I love Rituals. The first time I went to the mall by myself with my friends consisted of us going to Rituals and smelling everything in there. I took home a Hammam shower foam, and every time I smell it, it brings me back to being 15 years old without fail.

Fast-forward to now, and I’m still obsessed. I can’t help it. Their foams are unrivalled, and they also manage to come up with interesting new product types and consistently bring out new limited-edition lines. Visiting their store is always fun, as there’s always something new to explore.

And so, I was very excited to go and visit their store today! I went after work to a location near my home and treated myself to some goodies. They have a gift set containing one candle and three staples: the shower foam, body butter, and bath & shower oil. I also bought the Warming Body Scrub and the 50 ml Nouwa perfume.

What does Rituals Uukumwe smell like?

I would describe the smell as soft, warm, and sweet, which I find very fitting for the fall season.

My experience using Rituals Uukumwe

I started my shower by using the shower foam all over, after which I used the Warming Body Scrub and, lastly, the oil.

The shower foam functioned as it always does. Very foamy and bubbly and fragrant.

The scrub is definitely the star for me. It contains clay and warms up as you apply it to your skin. The clay helps cleanse your skin, while the scrub particles polish it further.

The only downside is the size: it’s only 220 g. After one full-body use, almost a quarter of it was gone. It’s not cheap either, so I’m conflicted: do I buy more, or accept that I can’t use this product very often?

The closing shower product was the bath & shower oil, which I was expecting to wash off feeling, well, oily. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it washes off very easily while still leaving my skin moisturised.

I can still smell the products on myself throughout the day. My skin feels soft and smooth, even before having used the body butter.

Other Rituals Uukumwe products I tried

I did test the All-over Glow Balm, but it was golden. A shade of gold that I cannot pull off naturally. You can massage it in, lightening the colour a bit, but the product is tacky and sticky, which is not a consistency I enjoy on my skin.

The line also contains an All-over Fragrance Mist, which I really considered. It was between the perfume and the spray for me. I chose the perfume: it smells deeper and warmer, whereas the fragrance mist is fresher. I wanted the warmer and stronger perfume, as it seemed more fitting for the season, but if I had unlimited money, I would have gotten both.

Is the Rituals Uukumwe Gift Set worth it?

The gift set is €59.90 and contains the shower foam, body butter, bath & shower oil, and a 140 g candle.

Bought separately:

Shower foam — €11.90
Body butter — €25.90
Bath & shower oil — €19.90

That totals €57.70.

So you are essentially getting the candle for just €2.20 extra.

The gift set includes two items that I consider to be really nice. I would have preferred the scrub with the shower products rather than the body butter. If that had been in there, I’d definitely recommend it a million times over.

Final thoughts

So, all in all, a great collection. As it is a fall/winter set, I am a bit disappointed there’s no hand cream. The product types are the basic ones, and a Glow Balm. I had hoped for something more interesting in here, but the items they’ve got are solid, I will say.

If you’re interested, I say pick up either the foam or shower oil, and the scrub. If you love the scent, pick up the fragrance. You can leave the collection at that.
